Do you need to know more?

Mattresses

No. Winkl mattresses produced today use a blend of silk, aramid, polyester and viscous for fire protection. This is woven into a fire barrier fabric that’s fixed to the inner layers of the mattress beneath the outer cover.

Choosing the right surface that supports a mattress can affect the way it feels and its long-term durability. Winkl mattresses are designed to deliver an effective sleep over the entire lifespan of the product. For that to happen, the mattress must be set up on an appropriate support base or foundation.

Approved base or foundations include:

  • - Slat base structurally capable of supporting the weight of the mattress and user(s). Slats should be no more than 7.5cm (75mm) apart.
  • - Box spring base structurally capable of supporting the weight of the mattress and user(s).
  • - Adjustable base structurally capable of supporting the weight of the mattress and user(s).

  • We do not recommend using your mattress on the floor as this could lead to mould developing.

If you are unsure about your setup, give us a call or send us a quick message. We’re happy to help.

Winkl mattresses don’t like being in their box for too long! We recommend unboxing your new mattress within a few days of receiving it. This will ensure the best quality sleep out of your mattress.

If you’re planning to unbox your Winkl at a later date, please get in touch with our customer support team, help@winkl.co.nz, and we will be able to arrange a delivery date that works best for you.

You can sleep on your mattress right away, however, we recommend waiting for 24 hours if possible. This gives the foam layers time to fully expand and any odours contained during packaging to dissipate.

Your Winkl will get better and better over the next few days as the foams continue to firm up and return to their manufactured state.

Let’s break it down in technical terms:

  • Cover Breathable, High GSM stretch knit polyester.
  • Top Layer – High resilience polyfoam
  • Middle layer – High-density Visco elastic memory foam
  • Bottom layer – Polyurethane support foam

Why no springs you may be wondering? It’s simple. Springs are old and uncomfortable. Sleep tech has moved on from the forties.

All Winkl foams are certified safe according to leading international standards. We don’t use nasty chemical fire retardants or chemical-based glues.

Yes. Winkl mattresses have a recommended weight limit of 140kg per side.

Can I still use a Winkl if I’m over 140kg? You bet! It simply means you will get a little less life out of the mattress.

We don’t believe there is any “best choice mattress” for arthritis sufferers. As an arthritis sufferer, you probably know this because you have already been through several mattresses in your quest for pain-free sleep.

However, we can confidently say Winkl mattresses will help to some degree. The top layer of a Winkl is made from our exclusive Winkl-flex comfort foam. It is designed to take the pressure off your back, hips, shoulders, or any other pointy parts of your body. It also enables you to change positions easily without feeling like your climbing out of a hole.

Back pain sufferers can rest assured Winkl mattresses are made from high-quality materials that contour to your body shape and provide support for your spine throughout the night. Check out the reviews to see how others have benefited.

There are many causes of back pain out there. Without being able to pinpoint the cause of your pain, it’s impossible to say. However, if you suspect your old mattress is causing you pain, it’s probably not providing the support you need. A new Winkl or any other quality mattress will certainly improve this.

Winkl mattresses are the only mattress in a box in New Zealand endorsed by the New Zealand Chiropractors' Association.

Winkl mattresses are made from high-quality materials that contour to your body shape and provide support for your spine throughout the night. Check out the reviews to see how others with back pain have benefited.

Both the Winkl and the Winkl Lux are a 6/10 on the firmness scale. But what does that mean? In simple terms, they are slightly firmer than medium and are designed to provide the perfect level of support for the vast majority of New Zealand sleepers.

Unless you like a super soft or super hard bed, it will be a good fit for you.

Check out our list of stores to see where you can try before you buy.

Winkl mattresses are tested in accordance with U.S standards (16 CFR Part 1633) as there are no New Zealand standards for the flammability of mattresses.
Winkl mattresses utilize a fire-barrier interliner on the inside of each mattress. The fabric interliner is made from a blend of silk, viscous, aramid and polyester fibers.
It is designed to slow the spread of flames in the event of a fire and eliminates the need for harmful chemical fire retardants in our foams ensuring you get a safer sleep.

Check out the compare page to see the mattresses side by side. For those of you in a hurry, the Lux has the following advantages:

  • - Thicker layers of foam for improved comfort and support
  • - Charcoal infused memory foam for superior heat regulation and antimicrobial performance
  • - Spinal support zones for superior spinal alignment and back support
  • - Luxurious higher GSM outer cover for improved durability
  • - An additional 5 years warranty, 15 years in total meaning your investment is protected for longer

What should I do with my original headboard?

Make a table, a shelf, a bar leaner, a downhill cart, a sleigh, a trap door, a snow board, surfboard or skateboard out of it. The world’s your oyster.

Technically you can but the results aren't guaranteed! Painting or staining your bed base may affect the warranty.

The best place to try the Winkl bed frame is in the comfort of your own home! We offer a risk-free 120-night trial so if you don’t love it, you can return it for a full refund. We’ll even pick it up and donate it to charity for free!

If by action you mean breakfast in bed, a little light reading or the kids jumping on it, you're fine.

If by ‘action’ you mean heavy petting, you're also good to go. And best of all, it won’t make a sound.

Yes. The Wink Bed Frame is specially designed with breather holes to ensure adequate air flow around your mattress.

The panels are a solid 40mm thick and constructed using oak veneer with a honeycomb core. This allows them to be lightweight without compromising strength or quality.

The legs are made from high quality 3mm steel and finished with a durable powder coat.

We do not recommend altering your panels. Cutting, sanding or rounding them will damage their structural integrity and void your warranty.

The weight of your mattress, coupled with your body weight, prevents most mattresses from sliding on the Bed. However, if you find your mattress slipping, we recommend the use of an anti-slip mat between the wood panels and the mattress.

Yes, this bad boy has been built to last so we’re backing it with a 10-year limited warranty. Check it out under the warranty section of our FAQ.

You bet it does. If you’re not completely satisfied with your bed frame within 120 nights, you can return it free of charge for a full refund.

120 night risk-free trial

It’s not often you can try something 120 times before you decide to keep it. But we know choosing a new mattress is an expensive decision. That’s why we offer a risk-free 120-night sleep trial in the comfort of your own home.

If you’re not completely satisfied with your mattress within 120 nights, you can simply return it for a full refund.

You may also exchange it for another size or model and pay the difference in price. In the event you choose to exchange your mattress, your new mattress will not qualify for the 120-night trial or a refund.

It can take up to four weeks for your body to adjust to a new mattress. For this reason, you must have slept on your mattress for a minimum of 30 nights before becoming eligible for a refund or exchange. There is a limit of two returns per customer.

To start your trial, simply purchase the mattress of your choice and we’ll deliver it to your door in no time.

Our famous 120-night trial applies to all Winkl products.

Easy. Contact us at help@winkl.co.nz with your proof of purchase. We’ll walk you through the process.

Please note: Not all mattresses are eligible for return.

The 120 night trial and return policy extends to the original purchaser only. Mattresses bought used or second hand are exempt from the trial and return policy. Mattresses that have been stained, marked, abused, soiled, damaged in anyway whatsoever, contain mould or have bed bugs will not be eligible for a return.

There is a limit of two returns per customer.

Don’t feel guilty about your return. We will make sure your pre-loved mattress goes to a good home. We have a partnership with the Salvation Army that enables us to make sure that good quality returned mattresses go to people in need.

Refunds are approved as soon as the returns process has been successfully completed. Please note it can take 3-5 business days for the bank to process your refund.

Refunds will be processed back through your original form of payment. For example, if you paid with Afterpay, your refund will be deposited into your Afterpay account.

Pick ups generally take up to 10 working days so find a place to keep your mattress dry, then sit back and relax while we take care of it for you.

From time to time in remote areas our partners may require more time to conduct the pick up. We’ll keep you informed if this is the case.

We appreciate your patience.

General

At Winkl, we keep it real with our pricing. We're not here to overcharge you just because we can. We charge what's necessary to support our team, give back to our community, and fuel our company's growth. This approach allows us to deliver top-notch quality and convenience without emptying your wallet.

Oh, and we've put some serious elbow grease into cutting unnecessary costs from our production, supply chain, and administrative functions. But let's not bore ourselves with fancy business jargon!

Our foams are CertiPUR-US certified. This standard is a form of health check for your mattress. The certification ensures the foams within your mattress have been made without the use of any CFCs, or other ozone depleters during the foam manufacturing process.

It also prohibits the use of:

  • − PBDEs, TDCPP or TCEP (”Tris”) flame retardants
  • − Mercury, lead, and other heavy metals
  • − Formaldehyde
  • − Phthalates regulated by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission
  • − High VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million)

All of the materials used to package your new Winkl are recyclable.

Cardboard can be placed in your kerbside recycling bin for collection. Soft plastics should be cut up and dropped off at your nearest soft plastic recycling station.

Check out the link below to find your nearest station. https://www.recycling.kiwi.nz/solutions/soft-plastics/store-locator/

Our designs should make you cosy and feel warm inside too. We are proud to say our outer fabrics are OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 certified. Uh, what? This means our fabrics are made from materials tested for more than 300 harmful substances.

At Winkl we believe we can all save the world while we sleep. We sense-check every design decision through a socially and environmentally friendly lens, to ensure our products have minimal social and environmental impact.

Unfortunately not at this point. But we have been working hard with our partners to develop a process that dismantles and disposes of your old mattress in an environmentally friendly way.

Stay tuned on our social media pages for more progress.

You can send us snail mail to 24 Cardigan Street, Arrowtown, Otago 9302

Unlike Ecosa, Winkl is New Zealand owned & operated. We also believe our mattresses are superior to the Ecosa with more of the good expensive foams inside. It should last longer and be far more comfortable. You can read a more detailed comparison here.

Both mattresses contain high quality memory foam and no partner disturbance technology. But the Winkl Lux mattress comes at much more affordable price.

We guarantee you’ll find the Winkl Lux as comfortable as a Tempur and we’re giving you 120 nights to find out. If you disagree, within the time period we’ll pick it and give you a full refund.

Mattress Care

Yes. Winkl mattresses should be used with a mattress protector to prevent damage from occurring and your warranty and/or trial period becoming void. Mattress protectors are the simplest and most effective way to protect your mattress from life’s unexpected accidents. If you want to use one, we recommend a waterproof, hypoallergenic protector made of breathable fabric to give you the right amount of protection without compromising comfort.

Yes. Remember to always follow the safety instructions that come with your electric blanket. But you knew that, right?

No. However, we do suggest you rotate your mattress at the start of each season to ensure the sleep surface wears in evenly.

All Winkl mattress protectors should be used with a mattress protector to keep them spick and span. in addition, we recommend spot cleaning, vacuuming and airing your mattress regularly. This helps prevent dirt, dust mites and mould & mildew from building up in your mattress over time.

If you are moving house, we recommend covering it with plastic, bending it in half and temporarily securing it with bungee cords while you move. Another popular option is using mattress boxes, available through moving companies. We recommend grabbing a buddy or a family member to help if moving it from room to room. The key thing to remember is not to drag.

When lifting, don’t grab the edges of the foam or the cover as they could stretch or even tear. Instead, stand at the opposite end to your partner, bend down and press your hands together one on either side of the mattress and lift together. Bend your knees and, as that old Kiwi ad in the 80s used to say, don’t use your back like a crane.

Winkl mattresses should be positioned with the zip at the bottom (closest to the base) and the soft side up. If you are finding your mattress very hard, there is a good chance it is up the wrong way and needs to be flipped over.

No. Winkl mattresses are intended to be used only with the outer cover on. Do not sit, sleep, roll, jump, let your husband jump or the dog hop on the mattress without the cover. This can cause irreparable damage to the inner layer of the mattress and reduce their effectiveness.

We don’t recommend cleaning the inner layers of the mattress with any liquid as they are super absorbent and can be damaged. If an accident happens without a protector on and you believe the spill has seeped through to the foam, simply spot clean and remove the cover, then spread baking soda over the effected area and vacuum up after two hours. Place the mattress outside in the sun and allow it to thoroughly air dry. Ensure it is completely dry before placing bedding back on as dampness could cause mould to develop.

We understand that life happens! That’s why the Winkl mattress cover is removable and machine-washable. However, we recommend you only do this when absolutely necessary. For minor spills and stains, spot clean the area with detergent and cold water. Gently blot and dab the area with a cloth rather than rubbing it to get the best results. If using a dryer to dry the cover, avoid high heat, as this can melt, shrink or deform the fabric. Ensure the cover is completely dry before being put back on the mattress as a damp or wet cover could lead to mould developing.

If a spill has an odour attached to it, spread baking soda over the affected area and let it sit for an hour or two before vacuuming up. This will help reduce the smell and absorb any lasting liquids.

If all else fails, please send an email to help@winkl.co.nz and we will assist you in getting a new one.

It is best to buy your fitted sheet a minimum of 10cm deeper than your mattress to allow for a good tuck in and avoid the common problem of your sheets coming off in the night.

  • The Winkl requires a 35cm deep fitted sheet in your chosen size.
  • The Winkl Lux requires a 40cm deep fitted sheet in your chosen size.

Deeper fitted sheets will also work perfectly well.

Winkl linen: 180 GSM

Why GSM?
Unlike other fabrics, linen is measured using ‘GSM’ instead of thread count. This is because the width of a linen thread is naturally wider lending itself toward a low thread count. This doesn’t mean linen is low quality. It simply means thread count is not an appropriate measure for linen quality. Hence the use of ‘GSM’ which measures weight.

Winkl linen bedding is 180 GSM which is higher than just about all the competition and is super high for the price. This ensures your bedding investment will stand the test of time and gives us the confidence to back it with a 3-year warranty.

Yup! Winkl duvet covers come equiped with handy corner ties to secure your duvet in place.

All of our products are color-fast, however we recommend washing seperatly for the first few washes just to be safe.

Minor fading can occur over time if your bedding is exposed to direct sunlight or if regularly washed in hot water.
